There was once a cinnamon/red colored black bear affectionately know to Yellowstone regulars as "Big Red." Big Red ranged in the area from Calcite Springs to Phantom Lake. He was often mistaken by Park visitors for a grizzly bear not only due to his coloring (so many people think black bears must be black), but also because he was large enough that when his posture was right, he had the appearance of a shoulder hump. He was mellow and ignored people, even quite close.

This fellow appears to be a worthy successor. He might even be a descendent!
