In my search for American Indian words for "buffalo," I learned that there are only 57 fluent Salish speakers -- and the average age of that very small group is 70 years old!  As such, Salish as a living language is in peril.  The Salish Language Revitalization Institute has the mission of researching, promoting and preserving the Salish language.  Languages are a cultural treasure, the preservation of which benefit all of humanity.  I recommend a visit to their website.  Should you be inclined to support their efforts, there is a PayPal donation option.
